THE GOD WHO CARES

I PETER 5:6-7 - "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."

There is one fact...one reality about God that everyone needs to know. It is important to know that whether you are a committed believer in Jesus Christ or you are not, that God cares about you.

Does this mean that both believers and unbelievers alike have a free pass to live however they want to in this life? Does the fact that God cares about everyone mean that somehow we all get a free pass into heaven in the after life no matter how we live and no matter what we believe? No. Salvation and eternal life in heaven are contingent upon one's acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Bible tells us that by no other name can a man be saved. ( Acts 4:12; John 3:16-17 ) The Word of God tells us that Jesus is the truth, the way and the life and no one can come to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6) Yet, whether a man or woman chooses to live for God or not, it does not change the fact that God loves all of us. He takes no pleasure in our disobedience or living a sinful lifestyle and for those of us who choose to live that way, there are consequences we will have to one day face that will be eternal. Nevertheless, the nature of God towards you and I does not change. God cares for you because He loves you.

When we examine the above scripture closely, there are four things that immediately stand out and that God wants you to know.

First, we see that God is directing that we should humble ourselves before the Lord. For the unbeliever this essentially means becoming a believer in Him, for how can one partake of the act of humbling himself or herself before God without acknowledging that God must exist? For the established Christian, it essentially means the same thing because we are required to believe Him, His nature of being a caring God and His promises throughout the Word that says He will provide for us in all things and in all situations. It really means walking in a state of humility and giving your life's situations, problems...your entire life over to Him and then trusting Him to take care of you. The Word gives us the assurance that as we call out to God and in so doing, place our faith and trust in Him that He will act and accomplish what is put into His hands. (Psalm 57:2; 138:8; ).

The second thing we see in the above scripture is that in the proper time the Lord will exalt us. He will answer and take care of us and our situations. But sometimes we try and make things happen on our own. We become impatient and even angry with God if life's situations and circumstances do not turn around right away. Yet the Lord knows the situation. He knows you. He knows what is best for you. He knows the right time to intervene. God has everything under control and He promises us that if we will humble ourselves before Him that at the proper time He will exalt us. To "exalt" in this context means to answer; to come through; to rescue; to vindicate; to justify.

The third important thing we can see in this scripture is that we are not to be anxious but instead we are told to cast our anxiety upon Him. I have found in my own life that when I follow the first two thoughts discussed regarding this scripture (humble ourselves and allow Him to choose the proper time to bring the answer...put our trust in Him) that this third one of casting our anxiety upon Him comes almost naturally. Why? Because when we humble ourselves before the Lord and know that the end result will be that He will exalt us at the proper time, our anxiety over the matter just has a way of disappearing. We have no reason to be anxious anymore because we know God will take care of the situation or problem...whatever it is.

Finally, the fourth thought that can be taken from this scripture brings us right back to the opening paragraph of this article. "God cares for you". It becomes so much easier to give the things in life we go through over to the Lord if we truly know and understand that He really does care about us. The Bible says that He does. The Bible is God's infallible and inerrant Word to us. And God cannot lie. ( Titus 1:2 ). So I encourage you to trust and believe God.

When you find yourself in difficult situations, give yourself and that which troubles you to God and then trust Him. He promises to help you. Are you going through a difficult relationship? Is your health an issue? Are finances tough? Are you having problems with a child or your children? Are you depressed? Do you feel hopeless? Have you lost your way? For all the problems there are that you may be going through, the solution is in the God who cares. He will help you. The Bible gives us the assurance that we can freely come to Jesus in a time of need." ( Hebrews 4:16 )

So what do you need to do? Humble yourself before the Lord today and give Him your problem. Cast your anxiety upon Him. In the proper time He will take care of the situation. Let's trust God today.

May the Lord bless this message to your heart.
